The Task

Envision was challenged to create a marquee digital element at the main entrance of the iconic TIFF Bell Lightbox building to help communicate information and create a sense of excitement around events at this marquee Toronto destination. The new design needed to address how people would consume information walking nearby, across the street, and people in cars or transit. Special consideration to materials and technology was required to ensure the new digital element could withstand the temperature changes of Canadian seasons and withstand the abuse of a public facing fixture in a 24-hour accessible area.

The Result

The final design featured 2 large LED tile panels mounted above the entrance and angled to form a delta that maximized viewability on both sides of the street and from vehicles in the street. Down lighting was integrated in-between the LED panels screens highlighting the entrance. Taking that delta shape from the main sign, 2 additional elements were created for the flanking columns that incorporated all-weather 55” LED monitors to provide more graphically engaging content. Programmable REB lighting was used in the edges of these elements to match the lighting colour effects of the TIFF Bell Lightbox building. All exterior facing components were fabricated using powder coated aluminum to withstand corrosion and all technology was specifically sourced high brightness and for 24/7 outdoor use.
